Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork

One of the biggest changes to my life since getting married is that now I have to cook meat on a regular basis. I probably don't have to, but Mike likes to eat meat and I don't want to eat out every night. So, I've been experimenting with cooking lots of meat and making it last for a week. Pulled pork so far has been my favorite. Especially since I found this Buzzfeed article telling me all the things I can do with it:

Of course, I couldn't listen to them and just make it with chicken broth when I could use something delicious like Dr. Pepper. So, here is my favorite pulled pork recipe:


1 large onion (diced)
1 pork butt (6-7ish lbs, bone-in)
salt & pepper (to taste)
1 can chili peppers in adobo sauce
1 can Dr. Pepper
1 tablespoon brown sugar


Generously salt and pepper your pork butt. Place onions on the bottom of your crock pot, and pork on top. Sprinkle on your brown sugar, and pour your chili peppers (you might only want half of the can or it will be pretty hot) and Dr. Pepper over your pork.

Cook on low for 6-8 hours. The meat should be falling off the bone. Take the bone out and shred up that pork!

We so far have used this pork for tacos, salads, and a delicious BBQ pizza. Trying it again next week because it was so delicious!
